Two Ingredient Bagel and Whipped Cream Cheese with CarePantry Self Raising Flour

Serves: 4 bagels


Ingredients:


  • 1 1/3 cups CarePantry Self Raising Flour

  • 3g salt (1/2 tsp)

  • 3g baking soda (1/2 tsp)

  • 250g plain Greek yoghurt (1 cup)

  • 450ml water (4 cups) (to boil the bagel)

  • 14g brown sugar (1 tbsp) (to boil the bagel)

  • 5g baking soda (1 tsp) (to boil the bagel)

  • 50g whole eggs, beaten (1 large) (to brush over the top)

  • 45g bagel seasoning of choice (3 tbsp) (to sprinkle over the top)


Whipped cream cheese:


  • 250g cream cheese, room temperature (1 cup)

  • 15ml milk (1 tbsp)


Method:


Bagel:

  1. Preheat oven to 170℃ fan-forced / 190℃ conventional, then line a baking tray with baking paper.

  2. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking soda. Add in yoghurt, then continue mixing util a sticky dough is formed 

  3. Transfer dough onto a lightly floured surface, then continue kneading until smooth. Divide dough into eight equal pieces, roll them out into ropes (approx. 15-16cm long), then join and pinch the two ends together to form a circle.  

  4. Prepare water bath: in a medium saucepan, combine water, brown sugar and baking soda. Bring water to a gentle boil. Gently drop bagel dough into the boiling water and cook for 1-2 minutes or until they float to the surface (cook longer for a chewier texture). Transfer onto a prepared baking tray. 

  5. Brush the top and side with egg wash, then sprinkle the top with bagel seasoning. 

  6. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes till golden brown. 



Whipped cream cheese:

  1. In a standing mixer or a bowl with whisk, whip cream cheese on high for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy. Add in milk and continue whipping for 1-2 minutes.

Assembly:

  1. Cut bagel lengthwise, then spread with cream cheese. Additionally serve with your favourite toppings of choice.
